Wool Judging at the 2018 Small Scale Sustainable Sheep Event

Wool judging is the process of evaluating 4 fleeces on weight, crimp, and character, to find what fleece will be the most beneficial for the producer. It can be further broken down into commercial classes and breed classes, with commercial classes being broken down into micron counts (e.x. 60-65 commercial), and breed classes being broken down into half blood or quarter blood fleeces(e.x. ½ blood Columbia).  At this event Brooke will be teaching the basics of how to evaluate and place classes of fleeces, and how to justify your placings with a couple sets of oral reasons.

Criteria for fleeces:

Fleeces must come bagged, with tagging on outside of bag to get back to correct owner
All fleeces must be tied! (if they do not know how to tie fleeces, the instructor will be able to help them)
Try to have straw and feces free fleeces (a few here and there is ok, just not entire fleece)

Fleeces for Handspinning:

Hand spinning fleeces do not need to be tied, just bagged.
Any sheep breed fleece is welcome.
